French-Bulgarian violinist Dimiter Tchernookov has been 2nd concertmaster of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra since 15 August 2017. Tchernookov has been described as ‘a musician who can really give the music a human voice’, and ‘a soloist with a shining technique’ - according to the commentary after his debut recital at Carnegie Hall with the Grand Air Trio.
After studying at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris under Olivier Charlier, which he graduated with high distinction in 2005, he continued his education in New York at the Mannes College of Music with Lucie Robert. He obtained the Professional Studies Diploma in 2007 (with special prize: the Georges & Elizabeth Gregory Award for Excellence in Performance), and in 2009 the Master of Music Degree. During these five years in New York, he performed in all major venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Yamaha Hall, Museum of the City of New York, NYC & Morgan Libraries, and Yale & Colony Clubs.
Tchernookov he has soloed with various ensembles including the Bachanalia Festival Orchestra, the Metro Chamber Orchestra and the New York Chamber Virtuosi. He was a prize winner of the California International Young Artists Competition, the Five Towns Music & Art Foundation Young Musician Competition and won first prize at the Mannes College of Music Concerto Competition. It earned him guest appearances at the Fontainebleau American Conservatory Summer Festival, the Casalmaggiore International Festival and the Festival de la Roque d'Antheron, among others.
In 2011, Tchernookov moved to Amsterdam, where he successfully continued his career. He was deputy 2nd concertmaster with the Radio Chamber Philharmonic. He also plays regularly in the Philharmonia Orchestra in London. His participation in master classes worldwide gave him the opportunity to work with and learn from great musicians such as Gerard Poulet, Donald Weilerstein, Ani Kavafian, Sylvia Rosenberg, Yifra Neaman, Takashi Shimitsu, David Chan, and the Orion Quartet.
Dimiter Tchernookov was deputy concertmaster at Het Gelders Orkest from 2013 to 2017. He is also a regular guest of renowned Dutch orchestras such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and Amsterdam Sinfonietta.
