Housewarming
The classical music repertoire for string octet has its iron repertoire. Mendelssohn and Shostakovich are among the established advocates for the richness of sound of this instrumental line-up. Yet in the music archives, forgotten compositions are still waiting to be rediscovered.
Such as the seldom played and never recorded double quartet Novoselje · Housewarming by the Russian violinist and composer Nikolay Afanasyev (1821-1898). Today hardly anyone knows his name, which does not diminish the value of his music. Like many forgotten composers of the past centuries, Afanasyev is only waiting for enthusiastic musicians who do not shy away from an unknown name.
